Can I store my Mac Apps on an external hard drive and put them on a different Mac?

I'm going to be getting rid of my 11" MacBook air to get the 13" MacBook air, but I need to save my Mac Apps I downloaded, so is it possible to save my Mac Apps on an external hard drive snd put them into my new Mac?
