Can i sue my apartment for not refunding our rent already paid?

We lost our apt due to a fire cause by the security veh explosion on may 9 2011 , we lost everything! Now the management move us to their sisterhood apart , we had a 2:2 apt for $735 n the one they move us in is smaller for $565. They told us they would credit us for the rent already pay n also make sure the cable company wouldn't charge us any fees for breaking the contract . Now they want to come n lock us out for short of rent n want for us to pay n I'm rcvd letters from the cable comp that they charging me $400 for the box n snd it to collection if we don't pay. What can we do?
